Obituary for Florence L. "Floss" Joyce

At the age of 90, on what would have been her 67th wedding anniversary, September 20, 2014, Floss was reunited with the love of her life, Tom. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Floss was born in Wilmington, the youngest of nine siblings. She graduated from Wilmington High School, and went to work at the duPont Company. She married, Tom, and together they had eight children. After the sudden loss of her husband, Thomas J. Joyce, Jr., her loving and insurmountable strength was demonstrated by her ability to continue on and raise her eight children, as well as two of her grandchildren. She was our angel on earth, who always put her children first.

One of Floss’s greatest joys was attending her children’s and grandchildren’s numerous sporting events. She was their biggest fan. She also liked to dance, paint, and travel to the beach.

She retired at the age of 83 from Charles Kurz Company, after 28 years of service.

Floss was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Sarah L. Lamborn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Joyce, Jr., in 1973, her son, Patrick, in 2010, along with her four sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by her children, Tom Joyce, and his wife, Sandy, Nini Baker, and her husband, Bob, Karen DiStefano, and her husband, Gary, Mary Ann McGovern, and her husband, George, Flo Nagle, and her husband, Jerry, Carol Casmay, and her husband, Mike, and Kevin Joyce, and his wife, Kristin. She was “Nana” to her 17 grandchildren, Kelly, Colleen, Kim, Bryan, Keri, Erin, Gary, Ashley, Brittany, Taryn, Jeremy, Shannon, Christopher, Kyle, Jack, Alex, and Amanda. In addition, she is survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special thank you to her devoted caregivers, Barbie and Lucy, well as Teresa and Stephanie.
