Obituary for Catherine Elizabeth "Kitty" O'Neill (Mohan)

Age 94 of Wilmington
Passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at home with her family by her side. Catherine, or “Kitty”, was born to the late Frank and Mary (Lawson) Mohan on December 27, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA. Kitty graduated from Lower Merion High School and attended many of the class reunions until just recently. Kitty worked for the Civil Defense during the war assembling aircraft instruments. She met the love of her life during the war, Arthur O’Neill, affectionately known to her as “Mick”. The two wed on December 27, 1944 during one of Mick’s furloughs. Kitty and Mick were inseparable during their 66 years of marriage and were lucky enough to simply enjoy each other’s company doing the simple things in life. They especially loved getting together with their children and their families for everything from birthday parties, graduations, or just surprising them with a visit.
Kitty was a homemaker during most of her life but did work for the Delaware Department of Labor for 13 years once her children had grown. She was never one to sit still. She loved to cook, clean, and wait on others. Anyone who ever came to her home was always made to feel welcome. Catherine, Kitty, Mom, Mom-Mom, or any other name she went by, loved to spend time with her family and closest friends; and those privileged to have known her understand just how much she will be missed.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband Mick, her brothers Joe, Georgie, Jimmy, Frankie, and Johnnie; her sisters Mary and Agnes; her granddaughter Jennifer; and her great-granddaughters Gabrielle and Abigail. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Ann Gates and her husband Ed and Mary Kestler; son, Art O’Neill and his wife Mary Ann; beloved grandchildren, Colleen, Chris, Kelly, Meghan, and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Grady, Logan, Brogan, and Lilly.
Kitty’s family sends their most sincere appreciation to Randy and Sarah from Addus Health Care and Silias from Season’s Hospice for their care of Kitty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew R.C. Church, 1013 E. Newport Pike, Wilm., DE 19804, on Wednesday, March 18 at 11:00am.
