Obituary for Jean S. Lindell (Shiflett)

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her daughter's home in Newark, on March 2, 2016.
Jean was born in Staunton, VA to the late Myrtle (Rohr) and Edward Shiftlett. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Jean moved to Wilmington in the early 30s to attend the Wilmington General School for Nursing, for which she graduated in 1938. She was a dedicated nurse at Wilmington General Hospital for 10 years. She retired to raise her family.
Jean's faith formation began at a Presbyterian church is Staunton. In Wilmington, she was a member of Second Baptist Church and also First Baptist Church of Holloway Terrace. Jean also attend masses at Corpus Christi Church in Elsmere. Her faith shaped the women and mother she became.
Jean was an avid bowler up until her late 80s. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games. Jean loved to crochet in her spare time as well as reading. She was fascinated with the history of the church. However Jean's most cherished memories came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and her sisters, Louise, Faye, and Ann.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Charles "Jerry" Lindell and his fiancé, Shirley Posey, and Elizabeth Lindell Holland, and her husband, Bill; grandchildren, Heather Prince (Michael), Shannon Stapleford (William), Greta Lindell; her great-grandchildren, Chase and Brayden Prince, and Shane and Kaylee Stapleford. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Shiflett of Goodview, VA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 am at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 905 New Rd., Elsmere, DE 19805. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-10:30am. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care of Jean. They would also like to thank Elsmere and Aetna ambulance crews and paramedics.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions in Jean's name to Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 905 New Rd., Elsmere, DE 19805, or St. Margaret of Scotland, 2431 Frasier Rd., Newark., DE 19702.
