Obituary for Joseph T. Yacucci Sr.

Passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 17, 2016. A lifelong resident of New Castle, he was born to the late Theodore and Anna (DeFilippo) Yacucci.

Joe served his country as a member of the Army/Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from William Penn High School and attended a year of college. Joe worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years and retired in 1988 as the Postmaster of New Castle. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and contributed to many fundraising activities with several charities which included Meals on Wheels. He was also a member of the New Castle Italian Heritage Society. He enjoyed dancing, walking in Battery Park, watching Fox News, and spending time visiting family at the beach. He also enjoyed travelling especially his trips to Italy and Lourdes.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa (Gallagher) and son, Joseph Jr. He is survived by his sons, James and Daniel; his daughters, Ann Yacucci, Patricia Volk (Fred), Maria Cavanaugh (Kenny); and his four grandchildren Matthew Cavanaugh (Molly), Andrew Cavanaugh (Amy), Michael Volk, and Kyle Volk.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony St., New Castle, DE 19720, on Saturday, May 21, at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the church on Friday, May 20, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
