Obituary for Margaret Ann "Aunt Marnie" Vance


Passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016.
Margaret was born on June 1, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John J. and Elmina (Aich) Vance.
She was a member of the Religious Order of Mary Reparatrix (Contemplative) for 25 years. Since her teens, Marnie was active in the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. In 1971, Marnie moved to New Castle, Delaware. She applied her religious life teachings to service in her local community. Marnie's work was recognized when she received the Order of Merit presented by the Diocese of Wilmington. She worked for many years at New Castle Insurance. She was a devout Catholic with a kind heart. She shared her love and bright personality with all those in her life.
In addition to her parents, Marnie was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Lyons, and her brothers, James W. Vance, CSSR, and Paul Vance.
Aunt Marnie will be dearly missed by her nieces, Patricia Salter Flynn, Mary Theresa Castagno, and her nephew, James Vance Lyons. She also leaves behind many generations of nieces and nephews, whom she adored.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE, on Friday, December 30 at 11:00 am. Friends may call at Krienen Funeral Home, 34 W. 6th Street, New Castle, DE on Thursday, December 29th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church Cemetery. Reception to follow at Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Aunt Marnie's name to St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE, or Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
