Obituary for Lawrence B "Larry" Cardwell

Lawrence B "Larry" Cardwell
Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.
Larry was the son of the late, Baird “Reb” and Mary Agnes “Nanny” (Barton) Cardwell. He was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia and was a graduate of Bartram High School. He resided in Norwood, Pennsylvania throughout the Seventies and Eighties. In 1993, Larry moved to Delaware where he has made his home for the past 24 years.
He was employed at Abbott’s Dairy for 15 years and upon leaving went to work for United Parcel Service. He retired after 20 years as a dedicated UPS driver. Larry was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Larry had many joys in life including camping, shopping, and family vacations. He also enjoyed his years spent as a Cub Scout leader. He loved his trips to Ocean City, MD, Lancaster, PA, and Florida. Larry’s greatest joy, however, was spending time with his young grandson, Owen.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Julia A. “Judy” (Fife) Cardwell.
He will be dearly missed by his sons, Kevin Cardwell (Colleen) and Kerry Cardwell (Shelly), and his grandson, Owen, with whom he shared so many special moments. Larry is also survived by his dear friends, Michael Moore and Janice Mosher, as well as his dog, Minnie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service for Larry at All Saints Cemetery Chapel, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., on Friday, April 7 at 2:00 pm. Friends may call at the chapel from 1:00-2:00 pm. Entombment will be in the adjoining St. Mary Columbarium.
The family wants to express their thanks and gratitude to Delaware Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.
