Obituary for Frank Leslie "Pop" Hewlett Jr.

Frank Leslie Hewlett Jr. “Pop”
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Frank was born and raised in Olde New Castle, and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1947. He then went on to West Nottingham Academy where he participated in the sports program and enjoyed singing for the school band. Frank graduated from University of Delaware in 1952 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While there, he participated in the freshman varsity baseball team, intramural sports, was treasurer of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and was senior representative to the student government association.
He met Arlene McGee at U of D and they married in 1953, and moved to the development of Swanwyck in New Castle, where they lived for 49 years. He worked for J.T. & L.E. Eliason Co., which later became Brosius Eliason, for a number of years where he was Vice President of sales.
Frank enjoyed donating his time and energy to the many groups and associations where he was a proud member. These associations include, Middle Atlantic Lumber Association, a charter member of the New Castle Jaycees, St. John’s Lodge #2AF & AM, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Wilmington, and the Nur Shrine Yacht Club. Frank was a long time member of the New Castle Baptist Church, starting as a child at the age of four. He was also a member and director of Delaware Court R.O.J. 164.
He and Arlene moved into the City of Olde New Castle in 2002 where they joined the N.C. Historical Society, friends of the library, as well as the senior center. After retirement in 1986, the couple began traveling thru the United States, Europe, and took several cruises as well. Frank loved his cottage in White Crystal Beach Manor, MD, where the two were members of the Crystal Beach Manor Boat Club and the Civic Association. He enjoyed boating, water sports, and gardening, and was also an avid U of D football fan. But most importantly, Frank enjoyed the company of family and friends. He had numerous friends and will be missed by many.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank L. Hewlett Sr. and Bessie (Reed) Hewlett; and his stepmother, Mary Sparks.
