Florence M. Szymanski “Flo”
Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 3, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Flo was born and raised in Wilmington to the late Ralph and Catarina Marra. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1955, and went on to work at Briggs Rubber Products in New Castle until her retirement. She then assumed her role as grandmother to her four granddaughters, the loves of her life.
She was a devoted wife of 58 years to her husband, Jim. She was a proud homemaker, mother, and grandmother to her cherished granddaughters.
Flo loved traveling annually to Florida and also abroad with family and friends. She was famous for her holiday luncheons and homemade pizzelles.
Flo is preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and John Szymanski. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her sons, Steve (Karen) and Kevin (Cheryl); her granddaughters, Lauren Denham (Anthony), Carolyn, Robin, and Julia; her great-granddaughter, Tenley; her sister, Sadie Dayett; her brothers, Alex Marra and Pat Marra (Joan); her sister-in-law, Pat Temple (George); her dear aunt Irene Rucinski; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank everyone at Seasons Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their great care of Flo.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 8, at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A viewing will take place at the church on Monday evening, August 7, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
