Obituary for Francis Ronald McCafferty

Francis Ronald McCafferty
Went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2017. Francis was born on September 5, 1941 in Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Brown Technical High School where he studied Radio and Television. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Esther Marie Edler. Francis served 4 years in the Navy as a Fire Control Technician on the USS Canberra. Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for Hercules Research Center as a Senior Chemist Assistant. While working for Hercules, Francis studied Chemistry at the University of Delaware. He then moved to Maryland to pursue a career in sales for Perkin-Elmer Corporation. While living in Maryland, Francis joined the Knights of Columbus reaching the status of Faithful Navigator for the Pangborn branch. In 2012, Francis and his wife retired to Melbourne, Florida.
Francis was the pride and joy of his parents, a caring, protective brother, and a wonderful, caring husband and father. He will always be remembered for his kindness and love toward everyone he knew. He was a true gentleman to the very end. He will also be remembered for his love of music. He loved to play the guitar, sing and dance. Francis was honored to have served in the Navy and never forgot his experiences there or the many men who served alongside him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Felix McCafferty; mother, Helen (Alfree) McCafferty; sisters, Patricia Wright, and Joyce Fuller. Francis will be forever missed by those he has left behind, his wonderful wife of 56 years, Esther Marie (Edler) McCafferty; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Harry Cox; his daughters, Christine Mondock, and Theresa Choy; 6 grandchildren, Alanna Peterson, Dustin Coburn, Franky Parks, Brianna Choy, Andrew Choy, and Jessica Choy; and 5 great-grandchildren, Yazmin, Gabriel, Lily, RJ, and Francis.
A visitation will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church 521 Harmony St, New Castle, DE 19720, on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am with burial immediately following in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 108 N Bedford St, Georgetown, DE 19947, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK. 73123.
