Obituary for Jean F Gallagher (Cannon)

An amazing woman has left this earth! Jean passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the age of 88, listening to Frank Sinatra with her children at her bedside. Jean, Foots, Mom, Granny was the daughter of the late Wallace L. (Bud) Cannon and Marie C. (Gregg).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. (Tuck) Gallagher Sr.; her daughter, Ellen Mary Barlow; and her brother James (Spike) Cannon. She is survived by her children, Maryjean Hall (Donald), Paula Toner (Pete), Pat Celli (Joseph/”Bundo”), Tucky Gallagher (Barbara), Vincent Gallgher (Vicki), Sean Gallagher, Monica Gallagher, and Jill Kendall (Gene); son-in-law, Charles Barlow. Jean has 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Jean is the oldest of nine and also leaves behind her sisters, and brothers, Marie “Sis” Stansky, Helen “Honey” Pawlowicz, Catherine “Connie” DeAscanis, Christine “Chris” Loncki, Elaine Pupillo, Wallace “Wally” Cannon, and Jerome “Chick” Cannon; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Cannon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born on Bull Hill, a lifelong resident of New Castle, she graduated from St. Peters H.S. in 1947. Jean lived a full and active life. She embraced her role as wife, mother and grandmother with zest and enthusiasm. She loved travelling, Frank Sinatra, and the Yankees. Jean’s many accomplishments included a charter member of the Holy Spirit Parish, Cub Pack 500 den mother, member of St. Vincent De Paul, and Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, Holy Spirit Choir, Ladies Aux. Bishop Becker Council of the K of C, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and as a librarian at St. Peter’s and St. Elizabeth’s H.S. Jean proudly was a Democratic Committee woman and was one of the “six women who made Biden’s 1972 run happen”. She was also a real estate agent for Holcomb and Salter and housekeeper for both Holy Spirit and St. Peter the Apostle Rectories.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Rd. New Castle, on Monday, November 6 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the Church on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Interment will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church Cemetery, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, on Monday following the Mass.
