Age 86 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017.
Tom was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 14, 1931 to the late John Leo and Margaret (Petrie) Skelly. He was a 1950 graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School. In 1951, Tom married the love of his life, Jeanne DeBlasio. Together they shared 60 loving years. In 1955, Tom and Jeanne relocated to Wilmington, DE where he then went to work at the Boxwood Road GM plant for 2 years. Upon leaving Boxwood Road he went into business with brother-in-law, Stanley DaMiecki. After 35 years of dedicated service at Stanley Advertising Agency, Tom retired to Laurel Mountain in Ligonier, PA.
Tom was a faith driven man. He was a parishioner of both Holy Trinity Parish in Ligonier and St. Peter the Apostle Parish in New Castle. Tom was a also member of the Bishop Becker Council of Knights of Columbus for over 55 years, where he reached the rank of Honorary 4th Degree and was a past Grand Knight. Tom gave of himself in many capacities including; the St. Peter's Carnival Committee for 25 years as well as the St. Peter Work Force and Building committee, Fish Fry’s during Lent and St. Patrick’s Irish breakfast.
Tom loved to travel. He saw many places both here and abroad, including his favorite family vacation to Alaska. He enjoyed his annual “in law and outlaw” fishing trips to Canada. Tom was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He loved the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. He was especially fond of the memory of attending Game 1 of the 1960 World Series that the Pirates later went on to win. Tom enjoyed bowling and was a member of the K of C Bowling team for many years. However most of all, Tom loved his family; he treasured the time they spent together.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Fresenius Kidney Care, Brandywine Home Therapies and Riverside Park and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care of Tom.
Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne; his brother, Frank Skelly; and his sister, Micki DaMiecki.
He will be dearly missed his children, Thomas P. Skelly (Jill) and Debora Skelly (Bill); his grandchildren, Jennifer Downey (Patrick), Allison Skelly (Ryan), and Amanda S. Wheeler; and his 2 great grandsons. Tom is also survived by his sister, Nancy Snashall (Dave); and brother, Richard Skelly (Carole), as well as a large extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will follow mass in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Tom's name to St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, or Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Dr. Ste. 407, Newark, DE 19713
