Obituary for Peter A. Pittaccio

Passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 from kidney failure. Pete was born in Camden, NJ on April 12, 1934 and was the oldest son of the late Pietro A. and Sadie (Ferri) Pittaccio. He was a 1953 graduate of Salesianum High School in Wilmington, DE. Pete was known for his infectious smile and thick curly hair. He was a giving, caring man that was always there to help anyone that needed it, from his family to his friends, and he did it with no fanfare. He got along with everyone he met and there was no one that ever had a bad thing to say about him. Pete’s first job out of high school was working for Westinghouse Electric for 3 years. He then changed careers and began working for DuPont, Chestnut Run, from 1956 to 1966. Upon leaving DuPont he began working for Apartment Rental Company, managing Colonial Court Apartments in Wilmington, and Country Squire and English Village in Newark, from 1966 to 1985, he then went to work for Frank Robino and Associates from 1985 to 1996.
Active in his community, he was an Elsmere Councilman for 4 years and for 4 more years he worked for the Town of Elsmere’s Planning & Buildings Committee. He was a member of the St. Anthony’s club in Little Italy, and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1952 to 1960. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Pete’s hobbies included dancing, shooting pool, and playing golf. He was also a drummer, and played with many local Wilmington bands in his early 20’s.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his son, Dominick Pittaccio. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Suzanne (Marta) Pittaccio; his daughters, Gina (Pittaccio) DiMauro, Rita (Pittaccio) Lindell, and Lisa Pittaccio, who was also his caretaker; his granddaughter and other caretaker, Angela (DiMauro) Wilson and her husband Mike; as well as 4 other grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Guido and Richard; and his sister, Theresa.
Lisa and Angela would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Manor and Regal Heights Healthcare in Hockessin, DE as well as Compassionate Care Hospice in Newport, DE for the amazing, beautiful and loving care extended to our father and grandfather, Pete. Your efforts both professional and empathetic, made being in your facility an easier time for our loved one
