Obituary for Marjorie A. Janicki

Marjorie A. Janicki
Marjorie A. (Gallagher) Janicki
New Castle – Marjorie A. Janicki passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Wednesday, March 12th, 2014. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Born September 3, 1934, Blanche Loretta Truitt and Alexander P. Gallagher Sr., she was raised on Second Street in Historic New Castle and graduated from the original St. Peters’ High School.
After meeting her husband, Matthew Z. Janicki Sr., at a dance at the Armory in Wilmington, they married in 1956 at St. Peter’s Church in New Castle.
Upon completing Nurses Training at St. Francis Hospital, she was a Registered Nurse with the Manganese in Historic New Castle. Margie enjoyed a long career with friends for 35 years as a Registered Nurse where she helped the community before retiring from Dr. Edmund E. Scott’s family practice in 2002.
Margie was a dedicated member of Holy Spirit Church, organizing many events with the Sodality and Leisure Club. She enjoyed spending time at her grandchildren’s musical and athletic events. She really loved spending time (and money) at Delaware Park with close friends, especially her niece, Ann Marie Gallagher Ellingsworth.
She was preceded by her husband of 55 years, Matthew Z. Janicki Sr. and her brother Alexander P. Gallagher Jr. and his wife Theresa Williams Gallagher. She is survived by son, Matthew Jr. (Donna), daughter, Monica Esterling (William Jr.), son, Martin Janicki (Shana), daughter, Maura Romanik (Brent); her grandchildren, Matthew III, William III, Marissa, Andrew, Molly, Sam, Abby, and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.
A Christian Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Spirit Church, New Castle on St, Patrick’s Day Monday, March 17th at 11:00 am. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday evening at Holy Spirit Church. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Marjorie’s name to Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Road, Garfield Park, New Castle, DE 19720.
