Life Story for Joan Marie Heglund

Age 81 of Wilmington
Passed away with her family by her side on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.
Joan was a loving devoted wife and mother who retired from the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District. She was member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Middletown where she was very active as a volunteer in many different parish activities. Joan was also very involved in the Daughters of Isabella. She was an avid Eagles fan and had an amazing sense humor that knew no limits.
Joan was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Catherine (Turek) Welsh. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin McCormick, and her daughter in law, Kim Heglund.
Joan will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard N. Heglund; her children, Richard, Kathi, David, Eileen, Tom, and Joanie. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristine, Richie, Katie, Suzanne, Jennifer, Laura, Jeremie, Joshua, Ryan, and Zachary; and her great grandchildren who were all the joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Thomas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle R. C. Church, 4th and Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington, on Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 am. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805 on Monday, November 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lorelton for their extra care of Joan though out her stay.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Joan's name to Wilmington Firefighter Association Local 1590, Wilmington Firefighter Memorial Fund, P.O.Box 1132, Wilm, DE 19899.
