Obituary for Dorothy Malone Waibel (Malone)

Dorothy Malone Waibel

Age 93 – Wilmington

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Born on November 21, 1923, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Lillian and Cooper Malone. She was a member and elder of Elsmere Presbyterian Church. She joined the church choir in 1935 and was a member of both the junior and senior choir for over 75 years.

Dorothy graduated from Wilmington High School in 1942 and the Delaware Hospital of Nursing in 1945. She married her husband, Roy, on April 20, 1946. In 1982, she and Roy retired to Grantz, PA. For 25 years she was involved with the Zion Lutheran Church and Choir. She was a lifetime member of the Gratz Historical Society and volunteered as a “home care driver”.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John Leroy Waibel, and their 5 month old firstborn son, John Cooper. She is survived by her sons, David Waibel, and his wife, Patty, of Reading, PA, and Paul Waibel and his wife, Sherry, of Wilmington; granddaughters, Melissa, Jessie, Lindsay, Rebecca, Josephine, Stephanie, and Joshua; and 2 great-grandsons, Aiden and Riley. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Leonard of Cartersville, GA, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy would like to thank all the wonderful friends and family who were able to provide transportation for her errands and her doctor appointments.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, July 25, from 10:00-11:00 am at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere. A Service will take place at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
